The Goshute Mountains dominate the eastern reaches of this Great Basin landscape, where the high peaks of White Horse Mtn and Sugar Loaf Peak rise sharply above the desert floor. Water is the primary driver of geography here, as evidenced by a series of critical points in the arid terrain including White Horse Springs, Little White Horse Spring, and the numbered series of Battle Spring Number One, Two, and Three. These sources historically supported transit and ranching across the high-altitude flats. To the west, the topography levels out into Antelope Valley and Dolly Varden Flat, areas defined by their accessibility via Alt 93 and Old Hwy 93. The presence of Kinsley Mtn Mine Rd suggests the enduring industrial importance of mining routes in this corner of Elko County.
