About this map

The Santa Ynez Mountains define the high country above the California coast, where the Santa Barbara and Ventura County line traverses a landscape of steep canyons and ridges. Early mid-century ranching life is visible through family holdings such as Botello Ranch, Hathaway Ranch, and Laguna Ranch, scattered along the drainage of Laguna Creek. To the south, the foothills transition toward the coast at Shepard Mesa and the campus of Cate School, just above the Carpinteria city limits.
