White Rock Canyon and the high elevations of the Santa Rosa Range define this portion of Humboldt County. The landscape is characterized by a network of drainage systems, including Skull Cr, Willow Cr, and Eagle Cr, which flow through deep canyons and across township boundaries. A significant portion of the eastern terrain is protected within the Humboldt National Forest, where the topography rises sharply from the valley floor. Transportation is limited to a few key corridors, notably Old Highway 95 in the northwest and a system of rugged access ways such as Upper Willow Creek Rd and Willow Creek Rd. This 2015 survey illustrates the isolation of the high desert range, emphasizing the natural watercourses like Pole Cr and Spring Cr that have long dictated movement and land use in this arid environment.
