Whites City sits at the confluence of several high-elevation drainages within the Helena National Forest, marking a transition between the rugged peaks of Needham Mtn and the creek-fed gulches of the Big Belt Mountains. The landscape is defined by its mining and ranching heritage, evident in the network of narrow roads like Spring Gulch Rd and White Gulch Rd that follow the natural contours of the land. High points such as Bilk Mtn and Cayuse Mtn overlook a complex system of drainages, including the oddly named Nary Time Gulch and Ready Cash Gulch. The border between Meagher and Broadwater counties traverses this mountainous terrain, where the headwaters of Avalanche Cr and Beaver Cr have carved deep features like Little Bridge Canyon and Cottonwood Hollow.
