The Yakima River carves a fertile path through the northern reach of this quadrangle, supporting the agriculture-heavy settlements of Prosser and Whitstran. The landscape is defined by its water management systems, including the Chandler Canal and Prosser E Lateral, which distribute resources from the river to the surrounding valley. To the south, the terrain rises dramatically into the Horse Heaven Hills, where the dense irrigation network gives way to larger land tracts and open country. This transition from river-bottom cultivation to upland range is marked by a grid of rural roads like Bert James Rd and Hickman Rd. Further east, the small communities of Gibbon and Biggam sit near the riverbanks, while the isolated Davis Ranch represents the expansive livestock and dryland farming heritage found in the higher elevations of the southern townships.
