The Holly Springs National Forest encompasses much of this landscape along the border of Benton and Tippah Counties. The local topography is defined by the headwaters of numerous creeks, including Yellow Rabbit Creek and Shelby Creek, which carve through the terrain near Rogers Hill. Settlement patterns in this 2015 survey are largely rural and centered around family and community landmarks. In the southern portion of the sheet, the small community of Whitten Town sits near the Whitten Town Cemetery and the shores of Caney Creek. To the southeast, Lake Chautauqua provides a significant water feature, while numerous small family burial grounds like Ormans Cemetery, Tate Cemetery, and Hopkins Cemetery are scattered throughout the hills, reflecting the deep-rooted genealogical history of this corner of Mississippi.
