Wild Horse Canyon and the high drainage of the Rio Salado define this high-desert landscape along the boundary of Cibola and Catron Counties. The topography is dominated by a complex network of dry washes and deep incisions, including Chamisa Canyon, Squirrel Canyon, and Miguel Chavez Canyon. These canyons are broken by prominent landmarks like Bailey Butte and the broad plateau of Techado Mesa.
