Ochoco National Forest dominates this Central Oregon landscape, where high-elevation grasslands and water management systems define the terrain. The N Fork Crooked River meanders through the heart of the region, feeding and being fed by numerous drainages such as Howard Cr, Johnson Cr, and Ross Cr. This 2017 survey reveals a sophisticated network of reservoirs designed for water storage in the high desert, including the Long Prairie Reservoir, Peterson Cr Reservoir, and Rough Canyon Reservoir.
