About this map

The settlement of Winchester sits at the northern edge of this Grant County landscape, defined in the mid-1960s by the complex water infrastructure of the Columbia Basin Project. The Winchester Wasteway snakes through the central terrain, supported by a network of Aqueducts and several chutes that managed the flow of irrigation water across the arid plateau. This engineering feat transformed the local economy, visible here in the organized grid of roads and the industrial presence of numerous Gravel Pits and borrow pits used for construction.
