The hamlet of Woodgate serves as a gateway to the southwestern reaches of the Adirondack Park Preserve on the border of Oneida and Lewis counties. This landscape is defined by its complex glacial hydrology, where numerous water bodies like White Lake, Otter Lake, and the remote Brandy Lake are connected by a network of drainage channels such as the White Lake Outlet and Otter Lake Outlet. The northern portion of the map is dominated by the Moose River, which features a prominent crossing at the Moose River Road Extension Bridge and the distinctively named Froth Hole.
