About this map

The Natchaug River and Mount Hope River carve through a landscape defined by small mill villages and agrarian hamlets in this late nineteenth-century survey of northeastern Connecticut. The New York and New England Railroad cuts across the southeastern corner, serving the station at Rawson and the depot at Hampton Station. Local industry is reflected in the many villages clustered along waterways, including Kenyonville, Phoenixville, and Gurleyville, while the upland terrain is marked by numerous family-named landmarks like Lead Mine Hill and Stickney Hill.
