Nunatak Fiord serves as the central drainage for an expansive icefield system where several massive ice flows converge. This 1959 field-annotated landscape is dominated by the West Nunatak Glacier and East Nunatak Glacier, which flank the prominent geological feature known as The Nunatak. The map documents the high-altitude boundary between British Columbia and Alaska, following a series of peaks including Mt Jette and Mt Aylesworth.

Glaciological features are recorded in detail, highlighting the Butler Glacier, Art Lewis Glacier, and the smaller Hanging Glacier. Within the Tongass National Forest boundaries, the topography shifts from tidal waters to the steep ice-carved slopes of the Saint Elias Mountains. These surveys, compiled in part from 1948 and 1958 aerial photography, capture the positions of numerous crevasses and the path of the Cascading Glacier before later twentieth-century changes altered these maritime ice fronts.
