Zinc and the neighboring community of Bergman anchor this Ozark landscape at the eastern edge of Boone County. The terrain is defined by a dense network of named hollows, many of which carry the legacies of local families and early industry, such as Lead Mine Hollow and Stillhouse Hollow. Water is a persistent theme throughout the survey, from the larger Crooked Creek to mineral-rich sites like Sulfur Springs and Elixir Springs, which speak to the historic draw of the region’s natural springs.
