St. Joe National Forest encompasses much of this Idaho landscape, dominated by the drainage systems of the Palouse River and the Potlatch River. The terrain is defined by prominent peaks and divides, including the namesake Abes Knob and the higher Beals Butte to the west. In the northern reaches, the Hoodoo Mountains and the Palouse Divide form a high-altitude boundary where numerous small creeks like Pittwood Cr and Mizpah Cr originate.
