Chugach National Forest provides the setting for this high-latitude study of glacial movement and alpine hydrology. The landscape is dominated by the massive Harvard Glacier, which descends into the waters of Harvard Arm. This coastal interface is a focal point of the region's geography, where ice meets the sea alongside several other significant ice fields including the Lowell Glacier and Baltimore Glacier.
