The area is a transition between the growing suburban influence of Edmond to the west and the more rural stretches of the county. The terrain is defined by low ridges and drainages like Shepherd Ridge and Buffalo Hill, which guide the paths of Soldier Cr and Coffee Cr.

Genealogists will find a high concentration of small family and community burial grounds, including the Gower Cem, Donnell Cem, and the uniquely named Arcadia Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cem.
