Avon serves as the central hub of this central Minnesota landscape, where a dense cluster of glacial water bodies dictates the local geography and settlement patterns. The Spunk Lake chain, including Upper Spunk Lake, Middle Spunk Lake, and Lower Spunk Lake, dominates the northern half of the sheet, while the larger Big Watab Lake and Big Fish Lake anchor the southern portion. This network of lakes is connected by the drainage of the N Fork Watab River and S Fork Watab River.
