About this map

The town of Avon sits at the northern edge of this central Minnesota landscape, where the Great Northern railroad parallels a developing 4 Lane highway. This mid-1960s survey captures a lake-dense transition between the townships of Avon Wendell, Collegeville, and St Joseph. The southeastern portion of the map is dominated by the sprawling grounds of St Johns University, including the Stella Maris Chapel on the shores of Sagatagan Lake and the nearby St Johns Cem. The region's glacial topography is clearly defined by a chain of major water bodies such as Big Watab Lake, Upper Spunk Lake, and Big Fish Lake, many of which feature documented depth curves. Local education and community life are noted through rural landmarks like School No 2032 and the Timberlee Chapel situated further south.
