Baring sits at the southern edge of this landscape, positioned where the valley floor meets the high peaks of the Snoqualmie National Forest. The geography is defined by a dense network of high-elevation water bodies, including the curiously named Tom Dick and Harry Lakes and the isolated Gunn Lake. This area transitions from the river corridors of the North Fork Skykomish River and South Fork Skykomish River into the protected heights of the Wild Sky Wilderness.
