The Glover River carves a deep path through the southeastern Oklahoma highlands, anchoring a landscape defined by sharp peaks and named hollows. In this 2010 survey of McCurtain County, the presence of Dierks Camp and Burks Camp along the river banks points to the area's history of timber harvesting and forest management. The terrain is marked by distinctive elevations such as Bear Mountain, Chinquapin Mountain, and Grapevine Mountain, which overlook a series of curiously named drainages. Local nomenclature is particularly vivid here, with Shorty Cox Hollow, Whisky Hollow, and Meat Hollow suggesting a history of personal and colloquial associations with the land. A complex network of county roads, including Co RD 664 and Co RD 684, provides access through the winding valleys formed by Shell Rock Creek and Cedar Creek.
