The Klamath Indian Reservation Boundary cuts across this high-desert landscape, preserving the location of significant cultural and historical sites. Prominent among these are the Paiute Cem, Jackson Cem, and the Chief Schonchin Cem, alongside the former Yainax Agency (Site). The geography is defined by the broad Sprague River valley and its surrounding highlands, including Council Butte and the volcanic prominence of Yainax Butte.

Economic and transport infrastructure of the mid-twentieth century is visible through the Oregon and California Eastern Railroad Grade and the Beatty Sta. Land use transitions from the open water of the Sycan River to the timberlands of the Winema National Forest and Fremont National Forest. Evidence of former industry remains at Kitts Mill (Site), while the agricultural character is maintained by the Keno Sprs Ranch and several highland reservoirs.
