Peters Ranch and Jaimerena Ranch anchor the southern reaches of this high-desert landscape in Elko County, where seasonal drainages and isolated springs define the pattern of rural life. The terrain is carved by the namesake Belmont Cr and Mitchell Cr, which flow through a network of family-held ranching lands including the Goyeneche Ranch and Wright Ranch. This 2012 survey illustrates the vital importance of water in the Great Basin, mapping numerous points such as Hellman Spring, Cherry Spring, and Belmont Springs.
