Big Rock Hill and Sheep Spring Hill dominate the topography of this high-desert landscape in northwestern New Mexico. At the time of this 2010 survey, the region shows a dispersed pattern of land use where mining and ranching interests coexist with traditional Navajo routes. Small-scale resource extraction is evident through the presence of the Woolly Tommy Mine, Jack Johnson Mine, and Tohatchie Mine, all situated north of the central hill.
