Tongue River winds through the southeastern corner of this landscape, marking a vital water source in the arid breaks of southeastern Montana. The terrain is defined by a dense network of intermittent drainages and named coulees, including Salesbury Draw, Bootlegger Draw, and the suggestively named Schoolhouse Draw, which hints at former rural gathering points. This 2024 survey documents the complex topography along the boundary of Big Horn and Rosebud counties, where the land rises toward the high ground of Ted Flat.
