Six Rivers National Forest dominates this mountain landscape along the border of Humboldt and Trinity counties. The terrain is defined by the three iconic summits of Black Lassic, Red Lassic, and Signal Peak, which form a dramatic high-altitude cluster. These peaks shed water into a complex network of drainage basins, primarily feeding the Little Van Duzen River and the various forks of the South Fork Van Duzen River.

Evidence of early land use and seasonal habitation appears in the scattered backcountry markers like Dutchman Camp and the curiously named Perry Salt Log. The map traces numerous unnamed jeep trails and primitive footpaths through Buck Pasture and over Freezeout Ridge, illustrating a landscape managed for wilderness and resource access in the late 1970s.
