Sawtooth National Forest dominates the landscape in this portion of southern Idaho, where high summits and complex drainage systems define the high-desert terrain. The Black Pine Mountains form a prominent spine through the quadrangle, reaching their heights at Black Pine Peak and War Eagle Peak. These peaks are surrounded by a network of seasonal water sources and landmarks that reflect the area's geological and human history, including Black Pine Spring, the curiously named Lost Tunnel Spring, and Formation Springs.
