Cottonwood Creek and its numerous tributaries dominate this high plains landscape in the southeastern corner of Carter County. The terrain is defined by a network of drainage systems, including the northern and southern forks of the creek, which carve through the land alongside Duncan Cr, Middle Cr, and Trough Cr. A prominent topographic feature known as Long Draw sits at the heart of the area, illustrating the natural water runoff patterns typical of this Montana rangeland.
