Rosebud Cr and the small community of Muddy anchor the southern reach of this landscape, where the county line separates Rosebud and Big Horn. The terrain is defined by an intricate network of drainage systems, most notably the forks of N Fork Cottonwood Cr and S Fork Cottonwood Cr, which carve through the high plains. These intermittent waterways and springs were critical for ranching and survival in this arid environment, providing reliable water points such as Black Spring and Lynch Spring.
