About this map

The Savannah River meanders through a dense network of oxbow lakes and swamps along the border of Georgia and South Carolina in this late 1970s survey. The landscape is defined by the shifting course of the river, where numerous cutoffs and points such as Poor Robin Upper Cut Point and Mosquito Camp Point suggest a dynamic hydrological history. On the Georgia side in Screven County, small settlements and cultural sites appear at the edge of the wetlands, including the Zion Fair Ch and the Bryan Cem.
