About this map

The Queets River carves a deep valley through the heart of the Olympic National Park, defining the landscape of this portion of the Olympic Mountains. This 2023 survey illustrates the dramatic elevation changes between the river basin and high-elevation points like Tshletshy Ridge. The land is protected as part of the Olympic Wilderness, where the only human-made infrastructure of note is the Queets River Trl following the northern bank of the water. Numerous high-country tributaries, including Bob Creek, Pelton Creek, and Tshletshy Creek, feed into the main river system from the steep surrounding slopes. The mapping of the Public Land Survey System grid over this topography reveals how Township and Range lines cross some of the most isolated terrain in the Pacific Northwest, far from any established towns or road networks.
