Bolton Landing and the western shores of Lake George are the primary focus of this late nineteenth-century survey, conducted just before the turn of the century. The map documents a landscape defined by its complex waterways and prominent peaks, illustrating the Steamboat Route as it passes numerous islands like Crown Id. and Oahu Id. while connecting remote landings. In the west, the settlements of Bolton and North Bolton sit between the lake and the inland heights of Federal Hill. To the east, the steep rising of the Tongue Mountain Range and the towering Black Mt. dominate the horizon. The interior is dotted with numerous small bodies of water, including Brant Lake and Trout Lake, which served as critical water resources for the early Adirondack communities and timber interests of the era.
