Lake Moultrie defines the western edge of this landscape, its expansive waters meeting the developed shorelines of Bonneau Beach and the military recreational area at NWS Charleston Short Stay. Moving inland, the settlement of Bonneau serves as a central hub, where the landscape transitions into the heavily wooded tracts of the Francis Marion National Forest. This area is particularly rich for genealogical research, containing numerous small burial sites including Bonneau Cem, Black Oak Cem, and Rehobeth Cem.
