About this map

The high-altitude mining landscape of the Continental Divide dominates this mid-century survey, centered on the historic mountain crossing at Boreas Pass. This rugged stretch of the Rockies in Summit and Park counties preserves the remnants of late-nineteenth-century gold and silver booms. While former settlements like Parkville and Dyersville are reduced to sites, the geography is marked by numerous active and historical operations such as the Sally Barber Mine, The Carbonate Mine, and Warriors Mark Mine. Extensive tailings deposits along French Gulch and American Gulch illustrate the scale of industrial extraction that once defined these slopes. High peaks including Mt Guyot and Bald Mountain flank the divide, while the lower elevations show signs of transition toward recreation at the Michigan Creek Campground and remnants of early ranching at the Schattinger Homestead.
