Cottonwood Cem stands as a lonely landmark in this section of the eastern Montana plains, situated along Co Rd 337. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems, including the North Fork Cottonwood Creek and South Fork Cottonwood Creek, which carve through the high prairie. The eponymous Bracket Butte rises as a distinct topographic feature near the center of the sheet, providing a primary point of reference in an area otherwise characterized by sweeping drainage basins like those of Ash Creek and Dry Creek. This 2024 survey documents the boundary between Custer and Fallon counties, showing a sparse network of section roads such as Whitney Cr Rd and Rd 403 that connect the remote ranching properties and open rangeland typical of this part of the Big Sky State.
