Jacktown sits at the eastern edge of this landscape where the Big South Fork of the Rolling Fork river meets Buck Br. The area is defined by a dense network of high ridges and knobs, including the humorously named Chicken Gizzard Ridge and Turkey Pen Knob. This 2019 survey documents a rural Kentucky interior still shaped by nineteenth-century family foundations and small congregations. Numerous family burial grounds, such as the Bald Knob Graveyard, Drye Graveyard, and Shreve Cem, are scattered across the hillsides, often situated near the summits of knobs or along the winding creek beds of Robinson Cr and Martin Creek. The presence of the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cem in the southern portion of the quadrangle serves as a central community landmark in a terrain otherwise carved into isolated hollows like Hale Hollow and McAnelly Br.
