Crooked River National Grassland dominates the southern reaches of this Jefferson County landscape, where the high desert terrain is etched by a complex network of seasonal drainages and canyons. The hydrology is defined by the catchments of Brewer Reservoir and Willow Cr Reservoir, alongside smaller water sources like Anderson Springs. A series of deep incisions in the earth, including Wagonblast Canyon, Dewies Canyon, and Red Shed Canyon, reveal the erosional patterns characteristic of the region east of the Cascades. Local transport and access are facilitated by unpaved thoroughfares such as SE Hay Creek Rd and SE Grizzly Rd, which navigate the elevation changes between the Baldwin Hills and the winding course of Mud Springs Cr. This survey illustrates the modern management of public lands and water resources in a region primarily shaped by ranching and conservation.
