Crooked River National Grassland dominates the southwestern portion of this Jefferson County landscape, where the high desert terrain transitions between open ranges and deeply cut drainages. The hydrology of the area is defined by seasonal water storage and complex canyon systems, including Dewies Canyon and Wagonblast Canyon carved into the Baldwin Hills. Water management is central to the geography here, with Brewer Reservoir and Willow Cr Reservoir providing vital catchments in an otherwise arid environment.
