Evidence of much older human activity is preserved in the southwest at the Petroglyphs, located near the base of the hills. The terrain transitions from the riverbed to significant peaks such as Eagle Mountain and survey markers like Mica. This 1958 survey, with revisions into the early 1970s, captures the region at a moment when traditional desert mining, indicated by numerous Prospects, coexisted with the suburban growth of the Phoenix periphery.
