The Similkameen River flows through the northern reaches of this Okanogan County landscape, carving a sharp course at Shankers Bend before passing the Enloe Dam. This region is defined by its deep mining history, with numerous operations scattered across the high terrain of Bullfrog Mountain, Ellemeham Mountain, and Mulcahy Mountain. Early 21st-century documentation shows a legacy of mineral extraction at the Bullfrog Mine, Horn Silver Mine, and Spokane Mine. Near the southeastern corner, the settlement of Golden is positioned between Wannacut Lake and its namesake Golden Cemetery. The western edge is anchored by the expanse of Palmer Lake, while the Ivanhoe Tunnel and the Submarine Mine further north point to the extensive underground exploration that once drove the local economy. Connecting these remote sites are narrow routes like Ellemeham Rd and Earth Dam Rd.
