Caledonia stands near the winding course of the Goose River in this eastern North Dakota landscape, situated at the junction of several county routes in Traill County. This area of the Red River Valley is defined by a grid of agricultural section lines and drainage systems, such as Mickelson Drain 13, which support the intensive farming of the region. The small settlement of Caledonia serves as a local hub, with its street grid including Main St and proximity to the Caledonia Cem to the east. The river's path is notably complex, with sharp oxbows and meanders that cut across the otherwise flat prairie terrain. Transportation is facilitated by a network of county roads, including Co Hwy 13, Co Hwy 4, and Co Hwy 2, which connect the scattered rural farmsteads across the townships.
