The Desatoya Mountains dominate the western portion of this high-desert landscape, where the border between Churchill Co and Lander Co follows the high ridgelines. To the east, the terrain descends into the expansive Smith Creek Valley, a broad basin defined by its agricultural and ranching utility in an otherwise arid environment. The eponymous Campbell Creek Ranch sits at the base of the mountains, strategically located where Campbell Cr emerges from the canyons to reach the valley floor.
