1959 Map of Capers Inlet

USGS Topo · Published 1992

About this map

Isle of Palms and its neighboring barrier islands define this stretch of the South Carolina coast in the late 1950s. The map illustrates a complex network of coastal waterways and marshes, centered on the Intracoastal Waterway as it moves past Big Hill Marsh and Mary Island. While the northern end of the Isle of Palms shows early residential street development, the adjacent Dewees Island and Capers Island remain dominated by their natural topography of ridges and sloughs.
