Blackburn College marks the eastern edge of the county seat, where the urban grid meets the undulating drainage basins of central Illinois. The landscape is defined by the winding course of Macoupin Creek and its many tributaries, including Hurricane Creek and Sugar Creek, which carve through the agricultural tableland. Small settlements and historical nodes like Standard City, Schoper, and Womac are connected by a network of section-line roads such as Standard City Rd and Rte 108.
