The Kettle River defines the eastern landscape of this Pine County terrain, winding past Big Eddy and Maple Island while receiving numerous tributaries like Pelkey Cr and Beals Cr. The central portion is characterized by extensive wetlands and water bodies, including the namesake Cedar Lake and the seasonally isolated Blueberry Island. To the east of the central marshlands, Bear Hill rises as a prominent landmark.
