The Little Wolf Mountains and Sarpy Mountains dominate this high-plains landscape along the border of Big Horn and Rosebud Counties. In this 2017 survey, the terrain is defined by a complex network of drainage systems, including Lynch Coulee and the extensive Indian Coulee watershed. The land is marked by significant topographical relief at Chalky Point, where the elevation shifts between the high ridges and the deeply carved basins of Wood Gulch and Williams Prong Indian Coulee.
