The North Fork Chandalar River winds through this northern interior landscape, defining a wide valley floor characterized by intricate braided channels and numerous small oxbows. The river's meandering path across the eastern half of the terrain is fed by several tributaries, including Lake Cr and the converging flows of N Twin Cr and S Twin Cr. To the west, the land rises sharply into steep ridges, where the contour lines indicate significant elevation changes away from the riparian basin.
