Chapelle Cr meanders through the southern portion of this landscape on the border of Hughes and Hyde counties. This high plains terrain is defined by a rigid grid of section lines and gravel roads, including 199th St at the northern edge and 207th St in the south. The area is characterized by numerous small prairie potholes and wetlands typical of the Missouri Plateau, scattered between arterial routes like 321st Ave and 324th Ave. This U.S. Geological Survey representation reflects the late-2010s agricultural and hydrologic state of the region, showing the systematic land division that has governed South Dakota's rural development for generations.
