The Tangipahoa River flows along the western edge of this landscape, defining the rural character of northern Tangipahoa Parish. In the mid-2010s, this area remained largely defined by its small crossroads settlements such as Chesbrough and Bolivar, connected by a network of winding roads like Highway 440 and Highway 1061. The land is heavily dissected by numerous tributaries, including Big Cr, Caney Br, and E Fork Big Cr, which carve through the terrain between low ridges.
