Chief Joseph Dam dominates the Columbia River landscape where the border of Okanogan Co meets Douglas Co. This infrastructure separates the waters of Lake Pateros from Rufus Woods Lake, anchoring the settlement of Bridgeport on the southern bank. The surrounding terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, from the river valley up to high plateaus and distinct peaks such as Sand Hill, Dyer Hill, and Carter Hill. A complex network of drainage basins, including W Foster Cr and Middle Foster Cr, carves through the landscape toward the river. To the south and west, the terrain levels out into broad areas like Sourdough Flats and Buckingham Flats, where rural roads like Pearl Hill Rd and N Mansfield Rd provide access to remote upland resources like Sharyer Spring and Rudd Lake.
