Blacks Fork meanders through this arid landscape near the border of Lincoln and Uinta Counties. The topography is defined by significant drainages including Muddy Creek and Dry Muddy Creek, which feed into the primary river system. This 2017 study illustrates the intersection of modern infrastructure and natural landmarks, notably where the Union Pacific RR cuts across the northern section of the quadrangle. In the southeastern corner, the namesake Church Butte rises as a prominent landmark above Porter Hollow, serving as a focal point for the local geography. Accessible via Church Butte Rd and Co Rd 233, the area reflects the characteristic high-desert terrain of southwestern Wyoming, where transportation corridors follow the natural contours of the river valleys.
